Drawing from the environment and culture, my work reflects man’s relationship with the natural world. Inspired by the rhythms of nature, I explore our interconnectedness as well as our detachment from it in the age of urbanization.
Through collage, I layer and manipulate magazine clippings and recycled images to create works on canvas. I tear, glue, and integrate fragments of paper into new compositions ranging from abstract, where torn paper communicates urban decay; to figurative, where realistic elements reflect the intricacy and beauty of nature and our indifference in our relationship with it. Exploring the natural versus urban dichotomy, I use collage as a metaphor for the transience of life which is in constant flux of deteriorating and renewing.
